Tommy J. McGuffey, Jr.

Founder, Author, and Songwriter Tommy J. McGuffey Jr. has successfully begun to make his mark and is destined to become highly ranked amongst other Daytonion legends. Recognizing his exceptional musical talents, McGuffey’s parents sent him to excel at Cleveland Elementary School for the Arts and he has since exceled in his studies Piano & Music Composition. He has studied under Madeline Green at Residence In Praise Fine Arts Studio (Trotwood, Ohio), with Dr. Robert Ruckman, Professor Bryon Dobbs and Dr. John Parcell at Sinclair Community College (Dayton, Ohio) and furthered his education at Wright State University (Dayton, Ohio) while being mentored by the late Dr. Brenda Ellis. To add to his harmonious accomplishments, McGuffey holds a B.A. in Sociology, a Masters in Public Administration and is currently working on his Doctorate in Organizational Development with an emphasis in Christian Leadership and a certification in African American Studies.

Currently, McGuffey is a dedicated member of Gateway Cathedral COGIC (Trotwood, Ohio) which is under the leadership of Pastor Norman J. Scearce, III. There, he serves as the Director of Worship & Arts and is a Minister Elect (licensing is slated for August of 2019). In addition to his servitude at his home church, McGuffey also serves as Minister of Music and Worship and Arts at The Omega Baptist Church (Dayton, Ohio). Of his countless admirable accomplishments, forming “Tommy McGuffey & True Worship” in 2010 is the most highlighted of them all. “Tommy McGuffey & True Worship” is a Gospel Ensemble that has been favored to minister an eclectic mix of Gospel music to the masses. “Tommy McGuffey & True Worship” released their album, “Declaration”, in 2016 and has since been an unstoppable force for the Kingdom of God! He completed his first book, “The Call: A Musical Guide Into The Urban Church” (2018) and orchestrated his Live Recording, “Faze 2: The Shift” (2018), released in September 2019. McGuffey’s musical journey includes him participating in the college division of the Gospel Music Workshop of America Inc. (GMWA), presenting original songs at the GMWA National Convention on countless occasions, developing and instructing a musical educational track titled “Music in the Urban Church”, performing for Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole at the SMAC Midwest Regional Conferences and sharing the stage with other musical greats; such as, Anita Wilson, VaShawn Mitchell, Chrystal Rucker and Tonya Baker. 

The year of 2019 has been sealed in history as being the break-out year for McGuffey! In 2019, McGuffey received a Steeple Award for Best Duo/Group of the year, a Kingdom Image Award nomination for Best Group Performance, signed onto Groove Gospel Records (Atlanta, Georgia), became a Co-Founder/Owener of the Production Company “Livin’ The Dream Entertainment, LLC” (Dayton, Ohio), and was appointed the role of Executive Director of Open Gate Urban Initiatives (Trotwood, Ohio)! Decorated denominational contributor, workshop facilitator, authentic worshiper, and public servant Tommy J. McGuffey Jr. understands that nothing is as important as passion and he has made it his mission, in word and deed, to ensure that everyone that he connects with echoes the same.
