Tommy J. McGuffey, Jr. is a dynamic minister, musician, veteran, and multi-industry professional whose work spans public service, community development, human resources, and the performing arts. With more than 15 years of experience across sectors, Tommy has dedicated his life to empowering people, transforming communities, and building systems that create equity and opportunity. In 2025, Tommy was honored as one of the Dayton Business Journal’s "People On The Move," a recognition that celebrates his growing influence in both business and civic leadership. He currently serves as the Program Director of the Women’s Business Center at Central State University under ECDI, where he leads outreach, programming, and capital access initiatives to support women and minority-owned small businesses across the Miami Valley.
Tommy is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve, where he served as a Vehicle Management & Analysis Specialist. His career has included impactful roles in human resources, nonprofit leadership, and mental health services, including with organizations such as Communicare Inc., Capital Healthcare Network, PLACES, TCN Behavioral Health, and Jefferson Township in Montgomery County, where he most recently served as Economic Development Coordinator. In every role, he’s brought innovation, policy insight, and community-first leadership.
Academically, Tommy holds a Master of Public Administration in Government and Public Policy from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Wright State University. He is certified in Nonprofit Management through Dayton SCORE and completion of the Black Leadership Development Program at Parity Inc.
In addition to his professional work, Tommy is deeply invested in civic and cultural life. A lifelong musician and minister, Tommy currently serves in ministry as a Minister at Gateway Cathedral Church of God in Christ, where he continues to uplift lives through faith and service while also serving as Minister of Music and Worship Arts at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Tommy has held roles in worship, music leadership and education with several institutions, including the University of Dayton, Sinclair Community College, and the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance. Tommy is a proud Charter Member of the Upsilon Lambda Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in Springfield, Ohio, where he also serves as Chapter President—reflecting his ongoing commitment to brotherhood, scholarship, and service.

A 2024 recipient of Parity’s Top 10 African American Men award, Tommy continues to lead with vision, heart, and purpose—committed to building better systems, stronger communities, and a more just future for all. He is the proud son of Olivia McGuffey and the late Elder Tommy McGuffey, Sr., and the devoted brother of Diamond Moore and brother-in-law to Charles Moore. His unwavering dedication to faith, family, and community remains the foundation of his calling and the fuel for his lifelong journey of impact.
